im / Girl Friday
Someone threw up in the elevator, which is just what you want to ride along with when you're on your way to work at 5.30 in the morning. Luckily our elevator is fast, and it was cleaned (from the look of the elevator, they... water blasted with bleach, apparently) by the time I got back.

In other relieving news, bless the internet for being full of other people who make the same mistakes; photobucket had a FAQ entry on what to do if you lose your password and the email is defunct. It involves a quiz on your account, including describing some of the pictures in it. I figured recently uploaded ones would be easier for them and also easier for me to remember, and I must say, the description "A dog wearing a pair of booties on a space nebula background with the caption 'MONEY' above it" probably actually made me laugh harder than the image itself. Although I did make it, so, I don't know.

Wanted doesn't come out here till fucking August. Motherfucking non-blockbuster release schedules. ...or, hell, not-quite-blockbuster release schedules, because from the looks of my flist EVERYONE went to go see it, so someone mispredicted what was going to be a blockbuster there. (Real big movies, like Iron Man and The Dark Knight and all get released at the same time here, probably so they can add on the international takings to the first weekend and look even more impressive. But they're less fussed about smaller profile projects, so we get them late. Two fucking months late, in this instance.)

I should do things. I did do some things. My Tony app for TR is basically done, it just needs tuning. But I should tag things. But the aforementioned early morning means I kind of ... don't feel like it. Hmm.

I KNOW LET'S HAVE A POLL: Here comes the fuzz. Except the fuzz is actually a poll. )

I end up at work for an hour, hour and a half longer than I was meant to, with varying degrees of fail happening the whole shift, and now I arrive home to find out photobucket or my computer or both have kindly decided I don't need to be always logged in like I should be. And none of the passwords I usually use work, and it turns out I used a now-defunct email address to sign up way back in the day.

So either I remember what specific password or variation thereof is on that one - which should have been easy, because it's logged me out before and I got back in just fine, and yet... no dice - or every picture I have uploaded there in the past year or two or whatever, I can't even - no, actually, if I used that old email address, it's a couple of years - is basically lost to me. Well, I have some of them sitting on my hard-drive, but sometimes I just grab things from about the internet. And who knows where said pictures are. It's not like I'm organized.

I'm going to go to bed. This will seem like a trivial matter in the morning. That or I'll remember my password.

Miscellany.

1. I had one of those vaguely unsettling wake-ups, when I could half-remember what I was dreaming about and it was offputting. I'm not sure why someone criticizing the way I brush my teeth was offputting when half-remembered as I woke up, but I was. Also there was something about a Death Note.

2. Doing three hours work and being paid for a full day is good times.

3. I got a haircut. I am... dissatisfied. Apparently 'tidy up' translated to 'I wish to look like a monk attempting to be hip.' It'll grow out again fairly quick, I think, but... ah, well, I probably should have thought through the haircut more and not expecting the El Cheapo place down the road to cope well with vague instructions.

4. I'm in a capricious mood. For the last day or so, actually. I vary between 'Every little thing is going to be all right' and strange bouts of complete irritation with minor things. Odd.

5. The Incredible Hulk was better than I thought it would be. I enjoyed it quite a bit, actually. Not to the extent of Certain Other Movies recently, but it was diverting. I am glad I did not watch the spoilery clip involving A Certain Character because knowing he was in there somewhere but not knowing where also made for good times.

6. I am unable to find either a torrent or an upload for the new episode of The Middleman. INTERNET, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?!

7. And here, a meme:

The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them ;-)

"Who would you rather have earning millions of dollars from all the rackets in the city? A lunkhead goombah who's going to blow it all on showgirls, shiny suits and greek revival marble nudie statues; or a genetically engineered supergenius primate with knowledge of advanced computer systems and astro-science?"
"Well, put it that way..."
"Listen up: it's all been fun and games until now, but there's something about you I must know."
"...yeah?"
"You like country?"

Everyone needs to go watch the Middleman if you have not already. If you are on my flist, you are almost guaranteed to like it.

In fact, if you don't, I may have to cut you, because we obviously have nothing in common.

If quirky is the new procedural, I am so down with that.

Also, the words 'hentai tentacle monster' occur within the first five minutes. And let that be our segue to another edition of Gems of Voluptuous Victorian Literature! )

It's a good day. Four hours of work to round out a ten day week, meaning I now have four days off, and Veronica Mars season one finally got relased over here, and my god, I'd forgotten how sharp that first season is. It's been too long, season one. I've missed you.

To get it I had to walk past a pile of Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundles. I am resisting. It comes with the version that is not backwards compatible, like, real smart, Sony. I mean, what. I just can't justify it, because... there are no other PS3 games I can think of that I'd want.

Maybe I'll just watch it on youtube when someone sticks a playthrough up there. Seeing how it all turns out is a major factor. But, I don't know, I don't really want to. I want to play it, even though with each MGS there's only a limited value of 'play' and an unlimited value of 'watch Hideo Kojima be relentlessly self-indulgent and get away - and be lauded, jesus - for storytelling (both visual and verbal) that we'd consider laughable in a TV series or movie.'

This concludes our controversial opinion portion of today's episode.

While we're here, shall we finally do some of that alphabet meme? Let's. )

Possibly by 2009 I will have stopped spazzing about how much I love that episode.

Work, clearly, is boring.

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Northeastern.
You're probably from somewhere near New York City, possibly north Jersey, or Connecticut or Rhode Island. If you are from New York City you may be one of the types who people never believe when you say you're from New York.

If you are not from here, you are probably one of the following:
(a) A Philadelphian who can't stand the way other Philadelphians say "on";
(b) A Yat from New Orleans; or
(c) Someone from England, Australia, or New Zealand, in which case why are you doing this quiz in the first place?

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

...well played, meme. Well played.

I don't think this even warrants a title.

I am both bored and unmotivated, so thus: a meme to supply me with easy timewasting things to do in future. Well played, meme. Well played.

It begins with a list of all 26 letters of the alphabet.

Comment with something for me to talk about that starts with one of those letters. Make me babble about anything -- TV shows, actors, actresses, food, idk, be creative. :D

One topic per letter -- it's like a claims list! I will cross off letters as topics appear.

I will post a new post talking about all 26 topics given to me!

As far as I'm concerned, that episode was just about perfect. Maybe it even was.

Couple of spoilers, a bit of theorizing. )

Marvel Studios is developing a movie based on its Harvey Award-winning comic Runaways, with co-creator Brian K. Vaughan (also a co-producer and writer on Lost) writing the adaptation.

YES.

FUCKING YES.

I mean, there's still the director and casting to worry about, but... BKV is doing the script. This is so ridiculously promising. Bless your hearts, Marvel Studios.

classic beauty
1. Jake Gyllenhaal is going to play the Prince of Persia. I am saving my excitement until such time as I hear he's training in parkour for the role. Because if the Prince of Persia isn't running along walls and doing off the chain acrobatics, I cannot endorse this movie.

2. So, the paparazzi folks apparently keep asking Romola Garai if she has this rivalry with Keira Knightley, to which she naturally replies "No, you're an idiot, stop asking," (not quite in those words) and it looks like they're going to get another excuse to, since Knightley's playing Cordelia in a feature film of King Lear. Anthony Hopkins is going to be Lear. I... have nothing against either of them, but as far as I'm concerned they got nothing on Sir Ian and Romola. Especially when the article starts mentioning epic battle sequences. Probably we can conclude it will also have epic weather effects sequences, too, then, and I'm going to defer to Slings & Arrows on this one: Lear is the storm.

Also, Romola Garai is way prettier than Keira Knightley, whose appeal I have frankly never quite understood; when presented as an attractive tomboy, okay, but as glamourous uberhotness I just... no?

3. Watch this. And this.

Now glory in the knowledge that Fox is making an American series of this. QUICK GO TRY OUT FOR IT EVERYONE.Addendum. )

4. Polly Walker is going to be in Caprica. ATIA IN SPAAAAAAAAAACE, etc.

5. Elaine Cassidy is the lead in that Harper's Island thing showing up on CBS midseason. It's a ... murder mystery thriller on an island? I don't know. In the trailer she's using an American accent. Screw the whole murders of people stuck on an island for a wedding bit, that freaks me out. Although admittedly she spent the entirety of Fingersmith doing an English accent (she's Irish) so it probably shouldn't. Indeed, I shall instead glee that she's doing the lead in a network series bit.

This entire entry has basically been an excuse for this: SURPRISE ROMOLA )
Lemmings!
Maybe I shouldn't go to bed at a reasonable time. Last night's presentation, courtesy of my subconscious: the Runaways vs IT. Yes, Stephen King's IT.

I mean, they kicked ITs ass, but still.
